LAYTON ABBEY
A young winning half-sister to a Group 1 winner by a high class stallion from an outstanding international family - what is not to like about this lovely mare?!
Who, as a great bonus, is in foal to one of the best horses ever to have made his way from the United States to stand in Australia - Coolmore Stud's Justify, the only Triple Crown winner to retire unbeaten.
Being exceptionally well received in Australia, Justify's first yearlings sold for up to $1 million at Easter and $900,000 at the Magic Millions.
The seven-year-old Layton Abbey showed ability during a brief career that saw her break her maiden (overcoming trouble in running as an odds-on favourite) at Hawkesbury. She has two colts (by Justify and Pride Of Dubai) coming through and certainly has plenty of upside with her dam Lustre Lady continuing to visit high class stallions.
Currently in foal to So You Think, Lustre Lady is doing a great job at stud with her first five foals to race all being winners including the wonderful mare Nakeeta Jane - winner of three of her eight starts including the Gr.1 Surround Stakes and the Gr.2 Light Fingers Stakes.
And she too has visited Justify (dam of her colt foal), her owners Coolmore Stud giving her every chance of success with a visit last spring to their exciting newcomer Wootton Bassett.
Layton Abbey is a daughter of the multiple Gr.1 winner High Chaparral, one of the mighty Sadler's Wells' finest sons. Not only a high class sire of 133 stakes winners including 23 Gr.1 winners such as So You Think, Dundeel, Shoot Out and Toronado, he is really doing the job as a broodmare sire - his daughters already producing 42 stakes winners, nine of whom have been successful at the elite level.
Layton Abbey hails from an internationally prolific high class family with her third dam being the Epsom Oaks heroine Jet Ski Lady who won that Classic by no less than ten lengths! And her dam Bemissed was also a Gr.1 winner.
A descendant of the influential matriarch Feola (as is her Epsom Derby winning second dam sire Nashwan), Layton Abbey has plenty of depth to her pedigree and is easy to match up with Justify being a particularly strong match with his 5 X 5 cross of Feola's descendant Narrate.
