Description
We all know yearling buyers love to buy yearlings out of mare’s which have won black type as a 2-year-old. JEMSS presents as a great opportunity to buy one, not with just any 2-year-old black type, but with Golden Slipper lead up black type.

JEMSS is a lightly raced 3-year-old filly who is being offered for sale as a breeding prospect only (see attached breeding soundness certificate). She has had just the one start as a 3-year-old and after an attempt to return to racing, it has been decided to retire her due to ongoing soundness issues with her fetlocks.

JEMSS is measured to stand 16.1 hands high. As you can see from the video, she has a lovely deep girth, with plenty of strength and bone. She has already started to let down particularly well. She has a small piece missing from her bottom lip (an old injury) which does not affect her in any way.

JEMSS was a filly who promised so much early in her career. Up and barrier trialling as early as October and November of her 2-year-old season where she won and placed in two Sydney trials, JEMSS had her first start in a Sydney Saturday race at Randwick over 1200m in December where she finished fourth to the subsequent $2 million Magic Millions 3-year-old Guineas winner AIM.

Lining up ten days later, once again at Randwick (1100m), JEMSS would this time finish third to subsequent Group 1 & Group 2 placed 2 and 3-year-old VANGELIC, after racing wide and without cover for most of the race.

Freshened up, JEMSS was next to step up to black type company in the time-honoured fillies Golden Slipper lead up, the Magic Night Stakes (Group 3) over 1200m at Rosehill. After being shuffled back at the start and being caught three and four-wide for most of the race, JEMSS put up an incredible performance, coming from second last approaching the home turn to be beaten just 0.6 lengths by another daughter of EXOSPHERE in the James Cummings trained THERMOSPHERE (a subsequent Group 2 winning 3-year-old). Unfortunately, JEMSS was unable to recapture this form in three subsequent starts.

JEMSS is a daughter of the high-class Golden Rose (Group 1) winner EXOSPHERE, a son of Champion Sire LONHRO. With his oldest progeny just 3-year-olds, EXOSPHERE is already acquitting himself well via the likes of both JEMSS and the aforementioned THERMOSPHERE, as well as Metropolitan winners NEARLY FINE (Sydney), RISING SPHERE (Melbourne) and KOZLUCA (Brisbane), and without forgetting the extremely promising EXOBOOM, a winner of his past two starts at Wyong and Kembla Grange by margins of 6.8 lengths and 5.3 lengths respectively. As of the 10th of March, EXOSPHERE is the second leading Australian Second Crop Sire (2020-2021 season) for percentage of winners to runners (behind NIGHT OF THUNDER), putting him ahead of the likes of PRIDE OF DUBAI, VANCOUVER, HEADWATER, CONTRIBUTER, PRESS STATEMENT, KERMADEC and I’M ALL THE TALK.

Most importantly JEMSS has particularly strong breeding on her dam side, being out of a MORE THAN READY mare, out of a DANEHILL mare. She is closely related to Blue Diamond Stakes (Group 1) placed filly GODIVA ROCK, whose second foal, an AMERICAN PHAROAH colt, sold for $425,00 at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
