Description
Highly commercial mare in foal to top stallion SHAMUS AWARD.
A lovely Sebring mare, SPLENDID EAGLE is already the dam of four winners from four runners to race so far. She comes from a hugely commercial family and is a three quarter sister to the Group 1 winner and three time HK Group winner EAGLE WAY as well as no less than three other stakes winners. Her mother threw 12 winners from 13 runners and the family tradition of winners and stakes winners is continuing – Splendid Eagle’s stakes winning half sister SOARESSA is the dam of two stakes winners in THERMAL CURRRENT and FOREVER FREE. Another half sister in Rough Ride is the mother of the Snowden’s hugely exciting 3yo by Capitalist in KALSHNIKOV. Owned by Segenhoe Stud, Rough Ride continues to be commercially bred and her Shalaa yearling this year sold at Easter for $550,000.
Splendid Eagle sells in foal to Shamus Award, a stallion on a steep incline who came 13th in the Sires Premiership last season despite significantly less runners than the 12 sires who finished ahead of him (his oldest progeny are only just turned 6). He sired 10 stakes winners and with three Group 1 winners for the season, he led all sires in the country in that measure alongside the premiership winner Written Tycoon. Expect demand for his progeny to rise significantly in the years ahead.
