Apart from those impressive credentials, La Seule comes from probably THE BEST FAMILY in the Australian Stud Book. It is also considered by many to be THE BEST FAMILY in the World today.

La Seule is the one, and the only named filly by Lonhro’s Group 1 winning son Kementari. It is well documented Kementari sired just six live foals from his only crop, of which two were named. One was the gelding Manwe (a Sydney winner) and the other being La Seule (a Kembla Grange winner). There cannot be too many stallions in the world which boast having 100% winners to runners.

La Seule’s dam Mithila, by twice Champion Australian Sire, and four-times Champion Australian Broodmare Sire Encosta De Lago, has had 6 winners from her 6 foals to race. Amongst those winners is the Group 3 winning I Am Invincible mare Madam Legend, a $900,000 purchase for Cressfield Stud at the 2022 Inglis Chairman’s Sale. Her new owners did not muck around, sending her to Snitzel in both 2022 and 2023, and the results – a 2023 filly (“as good a first foal as you would see”) and a 2024 colt (“looks like following suit”). Madam Legend is pencilled in to visit nine-times Group 1 winner Anamoe in 2024. Over the next few years, this page is only going to improve.

La Seule’s family is elite. Under her second dam Twyla, by the breed-shaping stallion Danehill, are Group 1 winners In Italian, Tom Kitten, Gathering and Desert Lightning. Under her third dam, the “Blue Hen” Dancing Show (by Nijinsky), are Group 1 winners Redoute’s Choice, Platinum Scissors, Manhattan Rain, Umatilla, Hurricane Sky, Al Maher, and Shoals. At the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, mares from this family in the Teeley Dispersal filled 9 of the top 10 sale prices, selling for between $1.1 million and $2.3 million. Since that time, the family has continued to strengthen even further.

La Seule was a good-looking yearling, having been purchased for $325,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast January Yearling Sale. A lovely scopey type, she has been measured to stand 16.0 1/2 hands high. We expect this lightly raced mare will let down into a delightful broodmare. She has recently been retired from racing, having last raced on the 28th of August, and is for unreserved sale.
