PROSE is a half-sister to 2020 ATC Australian Oaks (Group 1) winner COLLETTE (by HALLOWED CROWN). In his post-race interview COLLETTE’S trainer James Cummings commented “She’s a special filly for us” as well as stating, “She’s got a wonderful future.”

PROSE sells in foal to hot first season sire GRUNT (by O’REILLY). A big strong powerful dual Group 1 winner, last season GRUNT was Australia’s second most popular first season sire to (TRAPEZE ARTIST), and Victoria’s second most popular stallion (to TORONADO). Being a half-sister to a 2020 Group 1 winner, with excellent prospects of further Group 1 success, PROSE may in time be one of the better mares GRUNT covered in his first crop, making PROSE’S 2020 foal even more desirable come the 2022 yearling sales.

We already know COLLETTE looks to have a “wonderful future”, however, things aren’t looking the worst for PROSE either. She has her 2016 colt by POET’S VOICE, now named THE PARTISAN, to run for her, as well as her 2018 filly by FIORENTE, which is about to be sent off to be broken-in. Both the unraced THE PARTISAN’S trainer Terry Glasson, and the FIORENTE filly’s owners Millford Thoroughbreds, report these two horses are quality types. Added to this, based on what he has shown him on the track to date, Terry holds THE PARTISAN in high regard.

All commercial breeders know how important it is to own mares which can consistently produce good types and PROSE definitely has that box ticked. Apart from the two aforementioned foals, her first foal, BIG BAD BAZ (2014 colt by TEOFILO) was a $130,000 yearling purchase by John Foote Bloodstock/Darren Weir Racing at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast January Sale. And we all know John doesn’t know how to buy a bad type.

As luck would have it some of PROSE’S foals have not been blessed with the best amount of fortune. WILD PROMISE, her 2015 filly by DUNDEEL, injured a fetlock as a foal and was unable to race. Her 2017 colt by KERMADEC injured a sesamoid as a foal and was also unable to race. Both reported to be very good types. Her 2019 colt by FIORENTE, an above average type at birth, suddenly fell ill from a bacterial infection at about six weeks of age and died.

PROSE is a very well related mare with upside potential via (1) her half sister COLLETTE (2) her two foals yet to race and (3) the fact she normally produces a good type in theory means she should produce a good looking foal by a hot first season sire later this year. And you know GRUNT’S first crop will be in strong demand come yearling sales time. It is also worth noting PROSE has been a dream mare to breed with having been to stud seven seasons in a row and produced six live foals with number seven due in late October.
