Description
KARIYA is a winning mare by the 4-time Group 1 winner ALL TOO HARD out of the GONE WEST mare ISLA CANELA (USA). All Too Hard is the sire of 16 individual Stakes winners including the Group 1 winner ALLIGATOR BLOOD. Isla Canela is out the 4-time Group 1 winner and multiple Champion Female ISLINGTON. Kariya’s third dam is the Group 1 winner HELLENIC and she is from the family of Melbourne Cup winner and successful young sire FIORENTE.
Kariya is the dam of one foal, a weanling colt by Fiorente, who is being retained by the owners. That colt is a very neat, tidy first foal. Kariya was served by TORONADO (IRE) in the 2019 breeding season. Toronado is the sire of 130 winners, including five Stakes winners, across both hemispheres. He is the sire of Team Hawkes current boom 3YO Masked Crusader who has won three of his four starts. Toronado’s yearlings have sold for up to $340,000 and he has sired 45 winners in Australia this season from only two crops of racing age. He is full for the coming season at a fee of $27,500.
