GELDING WITH A TONE OF EARLY PROMISE JUST NEEDS TO FIND HIS SPARK AGAIN!
Commanding Witness is a lightly raced 5yo gelding by Star Witness who has loads of speed to burn. He showed huge potential early days but sadly hasn’t been able to recapture that form this preparation.
In just his first 3 starts, he was super competitive against highly credentialed horses.
• On debut, he finished 3rd beaten 0.7L behind Nicci’s Gold, a multiple metro winner and stakes placegetter with earnings over $400k
• In his second start he defeated Piracy, a multiple metro winner and stakes placegetter with earning over $260k
• In his 3rd start, after racing keenly and leading up the field by 5 lengths, he just weakened late to finish 4th beaten just 2.6L behind Assimilate (subsequent Listed winner & G3 placed), Dracarys (Subsequent G3 winner at next start), Gresham (multiple metro winner).
He then battled with knee injuries which required two separate key hole surgeries to remove chips in his off fore knee. He has since returned to the races successfully winning as evident at Kembla Grange on the 11th July 2019. He has been sound since that time and there are no further lameness concerns with the knee this preparation at all.
He just seems to be out of form at the moment, but I believe the key to him is soft tracks. His wet track form is very good 4:2-0-1 and it is on a good track that his form doesn’t read well. If his new owner is fortunate enough to find the right races for him in the right conditions, there is a powerhouse of a horse there ready to show his capability.
It might just be a gamble that pays off as Commanding Witness certainly has the potential there, he just needs the right conditions to bring it out of him.
