Description

Meliboea – Fast mare who’ll throw a precocious foal

Big, strong, short coupled mare in the mould of her sire Sebring.

16.1-16.2hh with a powerful shoulder, hind quarter and walk.

Meli was a $120k yearling purchased by Ciaron Maher.

Meli debuted as a Dec 2yo are Randwick. She was beaten 0.5l by One More Honey who two months later won the Gr2 Sweet Embrace stakes.

Meli’s next 3 starts were Gr3 Widden, Gr2 Sweet Embrace and then Gr3 Magic Night where she was only a couple of lengths behind Tulip and Alizee. She ran 34.90 last 600m in the Widden the quickest time that day at Rosehill. Clearly Meli was a talented, precocious 2yo. The 5 trials and 6 races showed a good constitution but took its toll like it does with many 2yo’s. She won her first start as a spring 3yo but was cooked and lost interest after that she retired as a 4yo.

She is in foal to Australia’s unluckiest horse in Spieth beaten a lip twice in Gr1 sprints. He will add his quality to the mating and this speed on speed cross should produce a powerful short coupled yearling ideal for the Australia market. We have a lovely Spieth foal on farm that has inherited his sires movie star head. Spieth’s sire Thorn Park was the youngest horse since Zabeel to win NZ Champion Sire (form just 4 crops). His sons Jimmy Choux and Ocean Park are enjoying success in the barn and we expect Spieth to do likewise.
