ELDER PRICE – Soundness Disclosure Declaration
On the 9th December ELDER PRICE whom had been in training and preparing to barrier trial, after lead-up fast work presented the following morning 3 out of 5 lame in the right hind limb.
On vet examination the horse was found to have effusion of the right hind tendon sheath and pain on palpation of this region.
Flexion tests of the right hind distal limb caused a mild exacerbation of the lameness. Other flexion tests and hood tests were unremarkable.
Further investigation by diagnostic imaging was undertaken, finding; Effusion of the DFTS; Slight thickening of the plantar (superficial) margin of the superficial digital flexor tendon at the level of the proximal sesamoid bones.
The findings were of a low-grade chronic problem that had flared-up for some reason.
Our vet confirmed this is a problem frequently encountered by sports horses. They often have mild sheath effusion for sometimes years, that never cause clinical problems and then may flare-up unexpectedly which can sometimes be problematic.
We took advice to paddock rest ELDER PRICE for 3-4 months.
As the horse last started on the 20th August and had since spelled, and had been back in work for when this site flared-up requiring a further spell, our owners have lost patience and voted to sell ELDER PRICE to make way for a new horse we will purchase at the yearling sales.
Therefore, we offer ELDER PRICE for Unreserved Sale to dissolve this co-ownership.
ELDER PRICE to the best of our knowledge has no other areas of concern that could potentially prohibit the horse from continuing his racing career. As per his raceform, our 4yo gelding has obvious ability. His low Benchmark Rating of City 58 / Country 60; Class 1 certainly has appeal for placing him to advantage to beat the handicapper.
He’s a lovely looking individual, with good size and scope, we recommend to all interested parties to maintain patience and continue the balance of this spell allowing the effusion to subside, before returning him into training. Currently located at Bimbadeen Park, our co-owners welcome any request from prospective buyers to send in your veterinarian for a pre-sale inspection.
