PROSE is a half-sister to COLETTE. She is being offered for genuine UNRESERVED sale, as her owner is dispersing all their broodmares.

COLETTE is due to run on the 3rd of April in the $1.5 million Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m) at Rosehill, a race she is presently second favourite for.
.
COLETTE is one of the best horses going around at present. Timeform currently have her rated as Australasia’s second best 4-year-old mare (to PROBABEEL). With earnings of $4,967,155, and victories in 2020 in the ATC Australian Oaks (Group 1), ATC Adrian Knox Stakes (Group 3) and the $7.5 million Golden Eagle, and more recently the 2021 ATC Apollo Stakes (Group 2), the sky appears to be the limit for this James Cummings trained mare.

COMMANDS (by DANEHILL), the sire of PROSE, needs no introduction. He is the sire of nearly 1,000 winners and 80 Stakes Winners including current Group 1 winning mares MELODY BELLE and BELLA VELLA. He is now making a name as an influential broodmare sire. On this year’s Golden Slipper race day, his daughters had two runners in the Golden Slipper itself – CAPTIVANT (by CAPITALIST) and SWIFT WITNESS (by STAR WITNESS), plus TAILLEUR (by SHOOTING TO WIN) and ORDER OF COMMAND (by SQUAMOSA) in The Galaxy (Group 1) (ORDER OF COMMAND was to run second). His daughters have clicked with just about every sire line available to breeders in Australia today.

PROSE has been an exceptionally fertile broodmare, having been to stud seven seasons in a row and produced seven live foals. There would not be too many broodmares in the Australian Stud Book who could boast being this fertile! After foaling without any complications on the 28th of October last year it was decided she deserved a break, hence she was not covered last season. She is offered for genuine UNRESERVED sale with a current breeding soundness certificate. She stands approximately 15.2 hands high and is currently in good health and condition. She started treatment on the 25th March for a small eye ulcer. This is expected to be cleared up within a few days.

Her first foal BIG BAD BAZ (2014 colt by TEOFILO) was a $130,000 yearling purchase by John Foote Bloodstock/Darren Weir Racing at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast January Sale. And we all know John does not know how to buy a bad type. BIG BAD BAZ was a winner and placed on six occasions including a third at Caulfield (beaten 0.5 lengths).

Her next foal WILD PRIMROSE (2015 filly by DUNDEEL) injured her fetlock in paddock accident as a young horse. Reported by the farm where she was reared to be a good quality type. Retired to stud in 2019. She had a 2020 colt by SINGING and was covered by HALLOWED CROWN in 2020.

Her third foal THE PARTISAN (2016 gelding by POET’S VOICE) was placed at his only start to date. On the 31st of January 2021 he ran second at Strathalbyn over 1200m (beaten 1.5 lengths) He led most of the way and before being headed at the 150m mark and battled on well to finish 1.5 lengths ahead of the third placegetter. He is with Kristi Evans at Strathalbyn. Reported to be a good quality type.

Her fourth foal TEMBUX (2017 colt by KERMADEC) injured a sesamoid as a young horse which will inhibit him from racing. Reported by the farm where he was reared to be a good quality type.

Her fifth foal PARISIAN VEIL (2018 filly by FIORENTE) was retained to race by the mare’s previous owners. She is in training with leading trainer Lindsey Smith, at Warrnambool. Reported by her owners to be a good quality type.

Her 2019 colt by FIORENTE died at approximately 8 weeks of age due to contracting a bacterial infection. Reported by the farm where he foaled to be a good quality colt.

Her 2020 colt by GRUNT was foaled on the 28th of October. This colt is a good quality type (see attached photo). He is from GRUNT’S first foal crop and will be offered for sale at the 2022 yearling sales.

PROSE is unquestionably a broodmare with upside potential.

(1) Her half-sister COLETTE can continue to perform well at elite level, hence, helping to improve her pedigree page.

(2) She has three foals coming through which can have the ability to enhance her breeding record – THE PARTISAN (placed at his only start), PARISIAN VEIL (with Lindsey Smith) and her 2020 colt by GRUNT.

(3) There is no reason to suggest she will not continue to breed good quality types.
