Description
Ruler By Choice is a four-time winning 4yo Chestnut mare by Champion sprinter and Group One producing sire Choisir. She was an $80,000 Inglis Premier graduate, purchased by Tony McEvoy.
Tony McEvoy’s original comments on purchase of the filly at the yearling sales were:
“She is a quality, big strong girl and a lovely mover. Her mum had a huge amount of speed and I think this filly will too looking at her.”
Ruler By Choice is out of Group Three winning mare CORTON CHARLEMAGNE, who won the Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley along with a 2yo race down the straight at Flemington. Corton Charlemagne is out of Group Three winning Prego mare LAURA’S EXPRESS, who is also the dam of Group Two winning LAURA’S CHARM (Encosta De Lago). Therefore there is lots of residual value, due to the black type in the immediate family.

A winner at her first two starts this mare has a heap of natural speed. She won on debut of 1000m at Murray Bridge in 13/11/19. She followed this up by winning at Pakenham on 28/11/19. As a 4yo she won a metro race (Murray Bridge) over 1200m on 08/8/20. She won her fourth race recently at Cranbourne on 05/3/21.
She weighs 570kgs and is approximately 16.2H.
She is easy to shoe, float, ride and is lovely to handle around the stables and is accustomed to both the treadmill and swimming pool. She is currently located in Miners Rest, near Ballarat, Vic.
Ruler By Choice suffered a tendon injury during her most recent run on the 04/5/21. Please see attached vet report. The vet has found that her prognosis for a return to racing is good, given time and rehabilitation.
Historical vetting of note:
Oct 2018: left hind scintigraphy, resulting in tibia stress fracture and she was given 4 months to recover.
March 2019: laceration involving right hind superficial digital flexor tendon requiring 3 months off.
