Description
Cuban Joe sustained a fracture to his near-fore sesamoid bone following a trial in July 2019 which resulted in him being on the sidelines for the remainder of that year. Following this, he had an enlargement of the left fore medial suspensory branch and then a curbed hock, all of which delayed his return to training until October 2020.
Since then, we’ve had a clear run with him and he showed his ability when coming with a strong run to go from near last to first to win on debut over 1200 metres at Kembla. He followed this up with a close fifth at Newcastle when stepping up to 1400 metres. He then weakened late on over 1500 metres at Kembla, but his rider put this down to being exposed to a very strong headwind which was detrimental to his finishing effort. However, he was since disappointing back at Kembla and the ownership group now wish to move him on.
This was only his first proper racing preparation, so he may have further upside off the back of a break and in a less competitive racing jurisdiction. He’s been spelling since 28th May 2021.
