Description
This weanling colt is by the Group 1 winning sire MANHATTAN RAIN. Manhattan Rain is by the multiple Champion Sire ENCOSTA DE LAGO and was the winner of the Group 1 AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes as a 2yo before running second in the Group 1 WS Cox Plate as a 3yo. He is the sire of 15 individual Group and/or Stakes winners, including the Group 1 ATC Golden Slipper winner and Australian Champion 2yo SHE WILL REIGN ($3,206,900), South African Group 1 winner WHISKY BARON, as well as Group winners MOONOVERMANHATTAN, RUNAWAY etc. Manhattan Rain yearlings have sold for up to $700,000.
This weanling is out of the multiple winning FLYING SPUR mare VOWS. Flying Spur is the broodmare sire of 10 individual Group 1 winners including SEBRING ($2,537,060), PREFERMENT (NZ), PIERATA etc. Vows was a winner of her first start as a 2yo before going on to win a Sydney metro race as a 3yo. She only started on three occasions. Vows is out of the Stakes winning mare PRENUPTIAL (NZ) and is from the family of Champion Sire and Broodmare Sire MARSCAY. Vows has produced 3 foals to race, all of whom are winners, including the Sydney winner SHADOW AFFAIR and this season’s 3-time winner PROPOSE TO ME. This colt’s yearling full brother recently sold to successful trainer Gerald Egan for $35,000 at the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Gold Yearling Sale.
This colt is bred on the same MANHATTAN RAIN x FLYING SPUR cross that has produced the above-mentioned Group 2 winner MOONOVERMANHATTAN ($357,960), the Group 3 placed multiple winner FLANDERSRAIN ($207,500) as well as last weekend’s Listed Eye Liner Stakes placegetter and 6-time winner RIGHT OR WRONG ($355,050). This cross is currently at almost 82% winners to runners for colts.
