Italian Poet is a 3yo gelding with good natural ability, he is still quite raw and far from reaching his full potential.

New Zealand bred by Zacinto, he debuted well ahead of his time as an early Autumn 2yo at Metropolitan level running a game 6th 2.45 lengths behind subsequent Group 2 winner Lightsaber.

He had three more starts as a winter 2yo where he was plagued with a run of bad luck and bottomless wet tracks. His last run of the campaign was on 7th August as a newly turned 3yo where he was brave in only being beaten 2.7 lengths at Flemington. He subsequently pulled up with a strained muscle from the run and is currently recovering in the paddock.

He will have another 2 months spell before returning for a Summer / early Autumn 3yo campaign where the stable expect he'll only continue to improve which is typical of the breed.

He is trained by Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra based at Flemington who hold an excellent record with the progeny of Zacinto including stablemates in City Winner Zac De Boss and Stakes Winner ODEON.

A regrettable share sale due to a change in personal circumstances and no fault of the horses own. Italian Poet is still very young with a plenty of racing expected to come.
