Description
‘Across the way’ is a two time winning lightly-raced mare from a blacktype family, in foal to intriguing first season Stallion TAGALOA. The owners are selling UNRESERVED in order to satisfy a condition of an existing partnership.
Mare:
A good size at 16hh Across the way is by Akeed Mofeed out of a Marauding mare. Therefore the foal has every chance of achieving a good size. She has a good walk and disposition. This is the mare’s first foal and is by an exciting first season sire, both factors which tend to produce excellent returns at the sales. She won twice and placed a further 3 times from only 13 career starts.
Pedigree and Nicks
Her pedigree page is impressive as a half relation to 3 stakes performed horses including Mega Steel who is a listed winner, group 3 placed and earner of over 450K. In the second dam is Barrosa Boy, a multiple group winner of over 1 million.
With very little known about how Tagaloa will nick with colonial blood this pedigree interestingly presents at least one established Nick with ‘Liberty Heights’ a Japanese group 2 winner being produced from a similar mating pattern (King Kamehameha / Dubawi mare).
Stallion:
Tagaloa stands for a fee of 33K and is by elite Japanese stallion Lord Kanaloa who is currently ranked the world’s 9th best stallion (8th on turf) ahead of Lope De Vega, Exceed and Excel, Fastnet Rock, Snitzel, Zoustar and I am invincible etc https://www.thoroughbredracing.com/rankings/category/sire_turf/?page=2& . Lord Kanaloa currently stands for over 200K at Shadai stallion – the most expensive stallion in Japan. Tagaloa is Lord Kanaloa’s most precocious son – the only Lord Kanaloa who has won a group 1 race as a 2yo.
Tagaloa won his maiden race as a pre-Christmas 2yo and then won the Blue Diamond beating Hanseatic in the 3rd fastest time ever recorded for that race – Faster than Anamoe and Artorious ran it last year (both races were on a good 4). Tagaloa went on to win a group 3 (CS Hayes) at 3 in near record time with the top weight over 1400 m and demonstrated his incredible talent running a faster closing 400 m than Everest winner Nature strip in the lightning stakes on the same day at Flemington. During his career he beat other first season sires Kings Legacy, Ole Kirk and Hanseatic among other group 1 winners.
Tagaloa – limited first season book
Yulong indicated early on that Tagaloa’s numbers would be sensibly managed in his first season and he will not serve a vast number of mares, possibly as low as 110 and unlikely more than 135. This will translate to a reasonably limited supply in the sales ring again making the prospect of commercial returns highly achievable.
