Description
SAVVY CROWN - Our 5yo gelding has been sent back to the paddock after four lacklustre runs this prep, and the majority of owners have since voted “No More – Out the Door” and want to turn him over so they can go into some of our 2022 Yearling purchasers. SAVVY CROWN has ability. You can see that in his form.
His previous preparation's form was excellent, winning first-up, then second-up he was 0.38 len 3rd of 13 in a Midway at Rosehill. Then at his third start he raced without luck when just 1.7len 6th of 13 in a Midway at Randwick. However, at his fourth run he was unplaced Midway at Randwick. The next day he was found to have been suffering a small virus and was immediately sent to the paddock for a “freshen-up.” We only gave him 3 weeks off, then a few weeks pre-training before returning to the stables.
Big things were planned for this preparation, but in his 4 starts he was flat and didn’t perform. It’s easy in hindsight, we needed to give him a longer spell, it appears obvious now that we rushed him. We know this prep was not up to his own standards, so we tipped him back to the paddock on 6th March.
Since then, a motion was put forward and voted on by the ownership group, and the majority have said they don’t wish to keep going. They know on his day he can measure up in Sydney grade, but the majority vote was to move him on. Under our Owners Deed, the vote of the majority carries.
Savvy Crown, could measure up to Saturday class in Brisbane / Adelaide / Perth if his new trainer can get him right.
Alternatively, he could make into a genuine Country Cups style horse because he is effective from 1400m to 2200m.
FYI – Declaration: Despite winning on a Heavy 10, SAVVY CROWN despises rain affected ground.
He was a $160,000 yearling and has excellent conformation, good size, strength and is built like a typical middle-distance style horse.
His 4 runs this prep were all on wet tracks. He will be a better horse in late Spring / Summer when on top of the ground. His big advantage is he’s only a Benchmark 57 City / and approximately Benchmark 66 Country, so is ideally placed to add several photos to the wall and significant prizemoney could be banked before hitting any glass ceiling.
