Description
Canny Lad mares are always keenly sought by breeders - and little wonder with that Golden Slipper winning son of the great Bletchingly doing such a great job as a broodmare sire; his daughters producing 86 stakes winners - 14 of whom have been successful at Gr.1 level including the superstar stallion Redoute's Choice.
The lightly used Sports Mistress boasts excellent broodmare credentials with her first live foal Ebony's Way being a city placed winner whilst her second - Sports Talk by the late I'm All The Talk - is impressive, his trainer excited about the potential he is showing.
Sports Mistress' dam Away by the great Octagonal is a half-sister to the dual Gr.1 winning sprinter Sports (durable and classy winner of 16 of his 70 starts including the Lightning Stakes and the Oakleigh Plate) and the Gr.2 Silver Shadow Stakes winner Seika - in turn dam of the Macau Gr.1 winner Clown Master and the local Gr.3 winner Clothilde.
This is a strong Woodlands Stud family, one whose members also include the stakes winners Zirna (a Gr.1 winner in New Zealand and Singapore), Medals, Territory, Classic Uniform, Top Charger, Crafty Irna, Vandalo, Amazing Me and Tavarnelle... as well as the champion globe-trotting sprinter Takeover Target.
And this is a family that is only going to continue thriving - Sports Mistress' relations in recent years visiting such classy stallions as Shamus Award, Kermadec, Microphone, Super Seth, Nicconi, Merchant Navy, Alabama Express, Tagaloa, Toronado, Zoustar, Anders, Supido and Brave Smash.
Sports Mistress is being sold in foal to the dual Gr.1 (Australian Guineas and Futurity Stakes) winning classy and consistent stallion Dash For Cash who has sired the stakes winner Dandy Dollar out of a Canny Lad mare. And this is a lovely mating - the foal boasting crosses of the terrific mares Kerala (dam of the great Damascus) and Game Of Chance.
