Description
AMERICAN PHAROAH - MONTANA FLIGHT (by Flying Spur)
The winner of nine of 11 starts including America's famous Triple Crown, Coolmore Stud's American Pharoah has made an encouraging start to his stud career in both hemispheres - in the north already represented by 27 stakes winners whilst locally three of his first 30 winners are stakes winners.
Pretty Amazing - winner of three in a row over the autumn carnival including the Gr.3 Kembla Grange Classic, Head Of State - winner over Profondo of the Gr.3 Gloaming Stakes and Tijuana - the unbeaten two-year-old who so impressively saluted at Listed level at Flemington on Anzac Day.
It is onwards and upwards for American Pharoah whose progeny should only get better as they mature as is the case for this well put together filly who hails from a classy and consistent local family.
She is the second foal for the lightly raced Montana Flight whose Golden Slipper winning sire Flying Spur backed up an outstanding stud career (99 stakes winners including 14 Gr.1 winners) with even better success as a broodmare sire - his daughters already producing 105 stakes winners, 13 of whom have been successful at the elite level.
Her first foal Montana Rising by Pride Of Dubai is showing ability, at just her second start in a Muswellbrook juvenile feature, she was sound to the line despite not having a great deal of room in the run home.
Montana Flight (who has since visited Justify and Yes Yes Yes) is out of the terrific producer Montana Downs, dam of seven winners including the extra smart sprinter Montana Flyer - winner of the Gr.2 Roman Consul Stakes and two editions of the Gr.3 Millie Fox Stakes.
Also dam of the stakes placed city winners Montana Sunset and Caravaggio, Montana Downs (daughter of the fast dual stakes winning juvenile Leta's Joy) is a half-sister to the classy and durable Montana Sands - winner of nine of his 77 starts with 12 placings in stakes company!
Also related to the multiple Gr.1 winner Sir Silver Lad, this colt boasts crosses of the outstanding stallions Storm Bird (as are seven of American Pharoah's stakes winners) and Mr Prospector (as are 22 of his stakes winners) and is also line-bred to the great mare Somethingroyal via her high achieving sons Sir Gaylord and Secretariat.
