Description
GRAN TRYPHENA stands at 16:2HH. She is a rangy type of mare, tall with a lot of scope. She does not have any standout confirmation issues. She has a nice temperament and is easy to deal with be it vetting, drench, farrier or transport. She has been straight forward to get in foal.
She was a winner over 1400m as an early 3yo. She trained on to be a nice staying type finishing less than 6 lengths off the winner in a Group 3 over 2500m. Her family boasts some very good black type winners including MERLENE, multiple Group 1 winner including the G1 Golden Slipper; MISS PENNYMONEY winner from 1200m to 1600m, including the G1 Newmarket Handicap; and COMPULSION, a Group 3 winner at 2, and grand dam of CAPITALIST, another Golden Slipper winner. GRAN TRYPHENAs first two foals are by NOSTRADAMUS, with her 2nd foal finishing a good 2nd on debut at Ascot over 1100m in early November 2022.
Her sire SMART MISSILE is only at the beginning of his broodmare sire journey. Being by the great Fastnet Rock, a top 10 broodmare sire for a number of years, you would suspect that Smart Missile will be sure to make his mark in the coming years.
GRAN TRYPHENA is in foal to FRANKEL MY DEAR, a son of the unbeaten FRANKEL (GB) and of BUENOS AIRES (IRE), a listed placegetter in France. BUENOS AIRES (IRE) is from an impressive family and is a half-sister to 3 stakes winners; twice Australian Horse of the Year and multiple Group 1 winner MIGHT AND POWER, Group 3 winner MATTER OF HONOUR and Listed winner BASTET (in France). And the Black Type continues with half-sisters going on to produce stakes winners in USA, France and Hong Kong. This is the family of Champion Miler 2003-04 of Hong Kong, LUCKY OWNERS, twice Group 1 winner MOSHEEN and multiple Group 2 winner TIME FOR WAR. The pedigree abounds in Black Type winners. FRANKEL MY DEAR is the winner of 2 races over 1200m, but he never reached his full potential due to throat surgery. Everyone thought he had tons of ability.
The pregnancy is bred on the Galileo (IRE) / Fastnet Rock cross which has to date produced 10 stakes winners at just under 7.2% stakes winners to runners. A cross producing good, fun racehorses.
