Description
This four-time winning New Zealand-bred mare offers an exceptional commercial maiden breeding proposition for the upcoming season, having amassed over $100,000 in prize money throughout the course of her competitive racing career.
TATALINA is a half-sister to the outstanding G1 winning mare TWO ILLICIT who has established herself as one of New Zealand’s highest rated horses, having won or placed in a total of 11 stakes races including wins at black type level six times and earning NZ$670,000 in prize money.
TWO ILLICIT’s brilliant eight career wins include the G1 Captain Cook Stakes, a further three G2’s, a G3 and a Listed race as well as placings at G1 level on three occasions – including a second in the G1 New Zealand Derby, third in the G1 Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes and a third in the G1 Zabeel Classic. TWO ILLICIT’s prominent form at G1 level also allowed her to place twice (for a fourth and a fifth) against the outstanding, 14-time G1 winning mare MELODY BELLE.
TATALINA is by OCEAN PARK, who is the sire of 17 individual stakes winners including superb mare TOFANE, an elite four-time G1 winner who was sold as a broodmare this year for $3.1 million, and KOLDING, winner of a treble of G1 races including the Epsom, All Aged and George Main. OCEAN PARK’s other stakes winners include the likes of OCEAN BILY, OCEANEX, STAR OF THE SEAS, FABRIC and ANOTHER DOLLAR.
TATALINA’S pedigree will continue to flourish, being one of four fillies out of the mare GEMINI. GEMINI is a half-sister to the G3 winning EASY EDDIE who had eight career wins and earned close to $620,000 in prizemoney. TATALINA will make a lovely addition to any broodmare band as she hails from one of the great Juddmonte families via the superior blue-hen mare MODENA.
MODENA had 14 named foals, 11 to race, all winners - with two of them being G1 winners from a total of 9 stakes winners or place getting progeny. Her G1 filly REAMS OF VERSE was crowned Champion 2yo filly in GB and won five races (4 at stakes level); including the G1 Ascot Fillies Mile and G1 The Oaks. ELMAAMUL was crowned Champion 3yo Colt in Ireland after winning the G1 Sandown Eclipse Stakes and the G1 Phoenix Champion Stakes among others.
This is a family rich in international quality – with stakes winners from all over the globe! TATALINA is ideal to mate to a variety of stallions as she is completely FREE of Danehill blood making her a total outcross. She is correct and beautifully put together standing at 16.1hh.
She is a lovely loose mover with a great temperament, is well behaved in the paddock and easy to handle around the farm. She retired sound earlier this year and has been fully rugged over winter and is ready to be covered for her first season at stud.
