Description
Deel Sweetener is a lightly raced 4yo mare by Dundeel, only having just the two starts to date.
She has been a very immature filly physically and mentally throughout, and she no doubt has plenty of improvement to come still in both her physicality and more so in her mental aspect.
She has been a mare that can have a bit of attitude from time to time and has been one that has required plenty of work in the barriers.
Stephen Jones has done an excellent job with her in that are and she is now able to load fine, stand well and jump away cleanly. Her barrier manners were half the battle but that seems to be almost down pat now.
Her two races are not a fair indication on what ability she might possess. They have come off the back of a lengthy preparation involving a lot of work in the gates. She had no luck whatsoever in her last race start and the rider reported she didn’t appreciate the heavy track. The finishing margin was drastically exaggerated due to the rider easing right up on her.
She is a mare that obviously needs to improve on what she has done so far, but there is definitely plenty to work on and plenty of improvement still to come. If she was doing everything perfectly and was still underperforming, then there would be little hope for her. But there is plenty more improvement that with time and effort can be brought out of her.
It would be a decent challenge for a trainer to take on, but the reward just might be worth it. I would recommend giving her a short spell now to mentally and physically recharge from this preparation and she should continue to show that improvement through further maturity next time in.
She is sound and well and her breathing is fine. She would just need a good rider and trainer to put in the effort of brining the best out of her, and we feel she can improve plenty.
