Description
Despite being by Slipper winner Vancouver, Vancouver Rain (a daughter of Reset mare, Lady Chelle) is neither precocious nor fast. She has needed, and still does need, time, patience and 2400m.
This has come as no surprise as Vancouver has not yet had the expected results as a stallion. Whilst he won a golden slipper he is, in my mind, much more likely to produce 9 and 10 furlong horses, just like his father Medaglia D’Oro. Cross Vancouver with a Reset mare and you get Vancouver Rain a horse that undoubtably needs distance and needs time to develop that staying ability. This theory is firmly supported by the results of a PlusVital speed gene analysis which assessed her to be a “T:T” (see the attached report).
Even now, as a 4yo mare, she displays classic signs of immaturity. She has a good frame but struggles to maintain her weight. I believe she will fill out and hold her condition much better as a 5 and 6 year old.
She has only raced six times and only twice gone beyond 2000m: on both those occasions she finished in the placings and on both occasions at Ballarat. At her current strength she needs good ground but in time she should be able to handle all going. We had hoped to run her over 2400m last week but unfortunately a heavy 10 rating meant we’d wait for another day. Sadly she has run out of time in our stable but she will make a good racing and breeding prospect for her future owner. Her young family has plenty of prospects with metro-placed sister, Marchelle, in training with Mark & Levi Kavanagh and a 2yo sister, Sunchelle, (The Autumn Sun) in training with Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace.
Vancouver Rain is sound and ready to race on.
