Description
Good Vintage is a lightly tried 3YO son of SAVABEEL, out of the very proven FLYING SPUR mare Better Alternative.
He is a ¾ brother to Champion Australian Stayer and 4x G1 winner PREFERMENT.
Good Vintage was bred, raised and handled at Yulong Stud for the duration of his life and was originally out to set his ¾ brother achievements to claim a Derby feature as a 3YO. At this stage of his career, we believe that he is not entirely up to that task now and with plenty of young stock coming through we have decided to move him on and focus on the other stock.
Lightly tried, he has had 5 race day starts, with a placing over 1850m earlier in the year showing a tremendous turn of foot, running home from 12th at the 400m to finish 2nd of 12.
By Savabeel and a 3/4 relation to Preferment, we believe that he will get better with age as his pedigree and breeding will suggest. Preferment claimed 3 of his 4 G1 victories as an older 4YO, these included the G1 Turnbull, G1 Australian Cup, G1 BMW & a notable victory in the G2 Hill Stakes.
Savabeel’s 4YO include SANGSTER, MO’UNGA, SOUND PROPOSITION, THE CHOSEN ONE, MILFORD, I WISH I WIN etc. His 4YOs alone have claimed more than $25 million in prize money, 16 SW and 9 Group Victories. His Broodmare Sire, Flying Spur, has been a proven source of older horse success as well. Older progeny out of Flying Spur mares includes G1 winners PREERMENT, PIERATA, and PAULELE. In total, the older stock has claimed over $36M in prize money, 15 SW and 8 GW.
We believe that Good Vintage would be better suited to a lower grade level than where we would like to see him and would make a very suitable country cups horse.
