Description
This son of MERCHANT NAVY has a nice shape to him and is quite a correct colt. He has good size, scope and strength for a first foal and is the sort of colt that looks to have plenty more improvement to come.
Out of the three-time winning AZAMOUR mare Lady Azamour, this colt is a three-quarter brother in blood to FASTNET ROCK’s Group One New Zealand Derby winner SHERWOOD FOREST and to the Stakes-winning Miler ROYAL OCEAN. Lady Azamour’s other Stakes-winning sibling is the Group Two Waikato Guineas winner FIELD OF GOLD, who placed third in the Group One New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas last season.
Lady Azamour’s unraced three-year-old half brother AWASH is by MERCHANT NAVY and was a $300,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase for his trainer Ciaron Maher. There is also a two-year-old SAXON WARRIOR colt and a yearling colt by MERCHANT NAVY coming through, both of whom have been retained to race by their breeder.
Yearlings by MERCHANT NAVY sold to $260,000 in 2023 and with is oldest progeny only three, he is already the sire of a Group One winner with ROYAL MERCHANT winning this season’s Goodwood Handicap.
