Description
Elegant Carriage was purchased for $22,500 via the 2022 Inglis Digital June (Late) Sale by her current owner with the long-term plan of adding her to their breeding program. Recently her owner's health took a turn for the worse, and they now have to disperse all their stock. As she is offered unreserved, there is a fair chance the lucky buyer is going to pick her up for well below the $40,000+ which they have already invested in her.

Elegant Carriage is a winning daughter of successful sire and broodmare sire Stratum. She sells on a very early cover (6 September) to the well liked second season Widden sire Anders.

Anders, a lightning-fast son of leading stallion Not a Single Doubt (sire of Extreme Choice), has just had his first weanlings sell at sales across Australia. They sold to top class judges such as Silverdale Farm/Brian Maguire ($130,000 filly) and Brian Clarke from Segenhoe Stud ($120,000 colt). Other notable purchasers included Paul Willetts (2), Mitchell Bloodstock, Sledmere/Cangon and KBL Thoroughbreds.

An 8 length October 2yo Sydney barrier trial winner, and with 122 live foals to represent Anders from his first crop, it will come as no surprise should we see his first crop hit the ground running early in their 2yo year. When this occurs, the market can become a feeding frenzy for a stallion’s second crop once they commence appearing at the yearling sales. With Elegant Carriage due to foal in mid-August, this will also give her purchaser a real chance of being able to get her foal into one of the earlier yearling sales on the annual calendar.

Stratum, the sire of Elegant Carriage, has sired of over 500 winners and 47 stakes winners, including Group 1 winners Crystal Lily (Golden Slipper), Streama ($2.6 million), Stratum Star ($2.4 million), Takedown ($1.6 million), Land of Plenty ($1.04 million), etc, etc.

Stratum currently sits in the top 25 on the 2022/23 season Australian Broodmare Sire’s List. He is the broodmare sire of nearly 300 winners and 9 stakes winners including 2023 Group 1 winning 3yo Lindermann (Rosehill Guineas), as well as Group winners Rocketing By ($2.5 million), Entente ($887,000), Moss Trip ($593,000) and Bring the Ransom ($575,000).

Elegant Carriage is a half-sister to 4 winners including Melbourne and Brisbane Group 3 winner Pedrena. Now at stud and owned by Coolmore Australia, Pedrina’s first live foal was a 2021 colt by Fastnet Rock, which sold for $400,000 to Guy Mulcaster/Chris Waller at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. She was covered by Home Affairs last season.

Some more potential upside for the purchaser of Elegant Carriage comes via her 2yo half-brother Stanhope Gate, a 2020 colt by Dundeel. Purchased for $300,000 as a yearling by renowned judge Alan Bell, Stanhope Gate is currently in work with leading NSW trainer Kris Lees.
