Description
North Star Lass is one of the best credentialled 3YO fillies of a stunning crop that featured the likes of Group 1 winner In Secret, Zougotcha and Sunshine In Paris.
She is a Group 2 winning and Group 1 placed 4-year-old mare by Zoustar out of the Black-Type and 5-time winning Snitzel mare, Sheila’s Star.
Sheila’s Star has an abundance of Black-Type to her name thanks to her 2nd place finish in the Group 3 Tressady Stakes at Flemington, 2nd place finish in a Listed race at Morphettville and 3rd place finish in the Listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington.
North Star Lass’ second dam, Northeast Sheila, is a Group 3 winner and dam of 7 winners including Listed winner Jacqueline Rouge. Other notable performers on her page include Group 1 winner, Instant Celebrity, Hong Kong star, Happy Healthy, dual Listed winner, Celebrity Girl, Listed winner and Group 2 placed, Dashing Granada, and Group 3 winner and Group 1 performer Generalife.
North Star Lass showed her talent on debut as a 2YO breaking her maiden at the first time of asking over 1100m at Warwick Farm where she beat Group performing males Basquiat and Alpha One. It wasn’t until the Spring of her 3YO career that we saw the best of her.
North Star Lass defeated Group 1 winners She’s Extreme and Madame Pommery and Group 2 winners Paris Dior and Seven Veils when she won the Group 2 Furious Stakes over 1200m, a race previously won by the likes of Winx, Sunline and Angst.
At her next start she came 4th in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes before finishing a close 3rd in the Group 1 Flight Stakes where only Group 1 winners Zougotcha and She’s Extreme finished ahead of her and Group 1 winners Fireburn and Madame Pommery finished behind her in the field.
She is a rare gem who has contested Stakes races in all but one of her 11 career starts and she joins an elite list of Group winning 3YO daughters of Zoustar which includes Sunlight, Zougotcha, Kiku, Olentia, Zoudancer and Sisstar.
