California Chic sells with her 1st of September foaled Hanseatic filly at foot. A straightforward foaling, the filly weighed 49kgs at birth. She is reported to be a good style of filly. Both the mare and foal have done well since the foaling.

Since retiring to Rosemont Stud in 2021, Hanseatic has been extremely popular with broodmare owners. Standing at a fee of $17,600, he covered books of 195 (2021) and 175 (2022). At this year’s weanling sales, his foals proved to be just as popular with some of the prices realised being, $50,000, $55,000, $70,000, $85,000, and $145,000.

California Chic’s first foal, a 2021 colt by Cosmic Force, was considered an above average first foal. A well-balanced colt with a very good walk, he was offered at the 2023 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale. Unfortunately, he didn’t present with the best set of x-rays and sold accordingly. Both California Chic’s parents are Group 1 winning 2yos. Her sire is Golden Slipper winner and Champion Australian 2yo Vancouver, sire of 10 stakes winners to date. Her dam Pasadena Girl (by Savabeel) won the ATC Champagne Stakes at her fourth start. Still in the early days of her breeding career, there looks to be plenty of potential upside for Pasadena Girl over the next several years. She has 2020 filly by leading sire Written Tycoon, a 2021 filly by Written Tycoon, a 2022 filly by leading WA sire War Chant, and she was covered by WA’s best sire, Playing God last season.

California Chic is a nice style of mare. She was entered for the 2023 Inglis Great Southern Sale in June. Approximately ten days out from the sale she ran into a fence and injured herself (two fractured bones in her wither) and had to be withdrawn. On veterinary advice she was given a period of box rest, then into a small yard. Her wither now has a slightly “flattened” appearance. She is now deemed to be paddock sound. Importantly she had a straightforward foaling last week. We wanted to make sure all went well with her foaling before she was offered for sale. We are now comfortable to put her on the market. A clean breeding soundness certificate is attached.

This is a fabulous opportunity for someone to pick up a young well bred fertile mare with a nice filly foal by a hot young commercial sire. The package is on the market from the first bid.
