Description
Acosta is a 4YO gelding by Snitzel out of the Sadler’s Wells mare, Global Dance, who is a three-quarter sister to Wareed. This gelding hails from the same family as Group 1 Irish Oaks winner, Moonstone, Champion 3YO Stayer in Ireland, Honolulu, and Champion Sprinter in Hong Kong, Wellington.
Acosta is lightly raced with just 4 starts to his name for 1 win and 2 placings. He won his first two trials as a 3YO and broke his maiden on debut over 1350m on a Good track at Beaumont Newcastle. His last start was on 25th February in the Group 2 Autumn Classic over 1800m at Sandown where he finished 5th.
On 24th August 2023 Acosta was examined after his gallop and was noted to be 2/5 lame in the LF. No site of pain was detected, and a series of nerve blocks were performed to eliminate the foot, fetlock, and knee as a source of pain. The horse was re-examined and swelling was noted in the LF SDFT. He underwent an ultrasound examination of the LF SDFT, and this identified a core lesion in his tendon. The lesion was visible from approximately 12cm below the accessory carpal bone to 25cm below the accessory carpal bone. The lesion involved 13-16% of the cross-sectional area at the site of maximum involvement (18-21 cm) and was graded a Type 3-4. This would be classified as a moderate tendon lesion. He is now 6 months into his recommended spell of 9-12 months. Please see vet reports attached.
