Not So Common is a 3YO gelding by Tivaci out of the Savabeel mare, Common Courtesy, who is a full-sister to Group 3 winner, Milford.
This gelding hails from the same family as multiple Group 1 winner, Sacred Falls and Group 2 winners Splurge and Shopaholic.
Not So Common is lightly raced with just 3 starts to his name for one placing. His last race was on the 10th of January over 1400m on a Good track at Warwick Farm. He’s previously won a trial at Randwick where he beat home his stablemate Very Sewreel who is now a Black-Type filly.
He has shown good ability so hopefully it’s not too long before he’s in the winner’s circle.
He is currently spelling at Evergreen Stud and was gelded on 22nd January.
On the 22nd of November, ‘Not So Common’ was examined as he was trotting with a shuffling forelimb action, with predominantly a mild half grade lameness in the near forelimb. Local anaesthesia of the mid carpal joint of the near fore knee (‘joint block’) resolved the lameness and caused a one grade lameness to become apparent in the off forelimb.
Radiographs were taken of both knees and revealed moderate sclerosis of the radial facet of the third carpal bones. Intra-articular medication of both mid carpal joints with artificial joint fluid (HA40mg) and short acting corticosteroids (triamcinolone -10mg) may be beneficial for improving the horse’s action.
Swimming, spacing gallops and incorporating treadmill work into the colt’s training regime would be beneficial for managing the third carpal bone sclerosis (vet report attached).
