Mezzin is a young mare by a Champion Sire in REDOUTE’S CHOICE and carries a double cross to DANEHILL. Unraced herself she is out of a Group 3 winning and multiple Group placed mare who’s sire line traces through MORE THAN READY.

Breed shaping is a term reserved for the elite in the thoroughbred game and when it comes to broodmare sires there are none that are more deserved of the title than the great REDOUTE’S CHOICE.

A Champion Sire on multiple occasions, he is a notable sire of sires, as well as being a 4-time Champion Broodmare Sire with his daughters having produced an honour roll of modern day Champions in their own right such as ANAMOE, HITOTSU, ACE HIGH, ARTORIUS, PROFONDO, SUPER SETH, ARCADIA QUEEN, D’ARGENTO, KEMENTARI etc. The list goes on and it is one that continues to grow and dominate the thoroughbred ranks.

Unraced mares from good families like this one have a strong record of producing high quality stock such as BLACK CAVIAR, HITOTSU, THINK IT OVER, ARTORIUS, EDUARDO, OLE KIRK and ROTHFIRE just to name a few.

Mezzin is carrying a positive test to the young gun stallion PIERATA, son of Champion Racehorse PIERRO. From his first crop of racing stock PIERATA has already sired 4 Group performed 2yo’s including the winner of the Group 3 MRC Chairman’s Stakes and Listed MRC debutant Stakes in COLEMAN. The damsire of PIERATA’ best performer to date of course being the Breed Shaper mentioned above in REDOUTE’S CHOICE!

This is a potent cross of Champion blood over Champion blood that draws from the best lines in the Australasian studbook and one that has already proven itself to be high class.

Having been backed in the breeding barn and through the sales rings by leading breeders and buyers respectively, it would be safe to assume that PIERATA stock will continue to be sought after. During the 2023 breeding season PIERATA covered a substantial book of both quality and numbers for a fee of $44,000 and in 2024 his yearlings have already sold up to $350,000 and have been purchased by leading trainers such as Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing, Annabel Neasham, Tony Gollan and Richard Freedman.

Timing is everything in the bloodstock game and this represents an opportunity to buy what could be a very commercial broodmare prospect at an optimum time.
