Description
METROPOLITAN PLACED MARE!!
Three-time METROPOLITAN placed Mare MISS DAMITA is being offered by her Syndicate for genuine sale due to her Syndicate wishing to pursue other opportunities AND is in foal (Due 12th September) to exciting first crop Newgate stallion IN THE CONGO.
MISS DAMITA’S first foal is a Yearling filly by KING’S LEGACY and her second foal is a Weanling colt by EXCEEDANCE who the Syndicate wish to race and which will be trained at Cranbourne by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr so the family will get every opportunity to succeed!
MISS DAMITA was always a sound racehorse having raced on 28 occasions for 5 Wins, 4 Seconds and 5 Thirds and $139,905 in stakes. She was placed 3 times at METROPOLITAN level twice at Sandown and once at Moonee Valley and was desperately unlucky not to have turned one of those placings into a Win! She is a lovely Mare to handle with a great attitude and the new owners get the opportunity of planning her future mating’s after her IN THE CONGO foal is born.
A son of emerging sire of sires Snitzel out of Champion sprinter Via Africa, IN THE CONGO retired to stud as the highest Timeform rated three-year-old by Champion sire Snitzel in the last five years. He was rated even higher at three than Snitzel’s Champion First and Second Season Sire son Russian Revolution.
Like Russian Revolution, IN THE CONGO possessed blazing gate speed, exceptionally high cruising speed, and was consistently one of the top colts of his generation at three. His crowning moment was defeating Anamoe in the Group 1 Golden Rose and in doing so, running the fastest time in the history of the race. IN THE CONGO’S stellar 3-year-old season included a win in the G3 San Domenico S., where he beat Paulele (Dawn Approach {Ire}), Captivant, Maotai (Not A Single Doubt), Stay Inside and Mazu (Maurice {Jpn}). In the hands of Tim Clark, he set a frenetic pace in the Golden Rose and fought like a lion, staving off all challengers, including the fast-finishing Anamoe, to set a race-record time of 1:21.46.
Later, IN THE CONGO took on the older horses in the G1 The Galaxy and the colt ran extremely well, finishing a close third on the Heavy 9 track, which favoured the winner Shelby Sixtysix (Toronado {Ire}). IN THE CONGO is the highest Timeform-rated 3-year-old by Snitzel in the last five years. The thing personally that I was so in awe about with IN THE CONGO watching him race was from the start of his 3-year-old season until the end, he really had high-class, elite, Group 1 form. He won the San Domenico early in the season; it’s a time-honoured race won by many good stallions, and he had to beat Group 1 winners such as Paulele, Captivant and Mazu to do that. He fought out the G2 Run To The Rose and was narrowly beaten by Anamoe, before turning the tables on him in the G1 Golden Rose, where he recorded the fastest time on record!
As a 4YO, IN THE CONGO clearly had other things on his mind and after a failure in the GROUP 1 William Reid Stakes, was subsequently retired with $1,769,075 in stakes to the stallion making stud in Newgate under Henry Field. He will always remain to those who watched his racing, a very fast on speed son of Snitzel who beat the best and retires at a fee that is extremely appealing as will his progeny when they first sell in 2026.
The excitement of a IN THE CONGO/MISS DAMITA foal is that this mating will bring both speed via IN THE CONGO and stamina via MISS DAMITA and is an overwhelming 20/20 match on the breeding portal G1-Goldmine.
ZABEEL is a most important and influential line also and he himself is a Champion Broodmare stallion and has been for many years. OCEAN PARK carries this strain as the Broodmare Stallion for OCEAN PARK’S dam in Sayyida being by ZABEEL. Not surprisingly, ZABEEL features very heavily with sons of Danehill which obviously matches across the male line of IN THE CONGO, however when it also presents along the female side as it does with MISS DAMITA the results are quite outstanding, as it has produced horses of the caliber of GROUP winners: ALBRECHT, TIME FOR WAR, BIG TREE, CHAINS OF HONOUR, WILLIAMSBURG, POSITIVE PEACE, SWISS EXILE, NOT AN OPTION, MOKULUA, SECRET BLAZE, BRUCKNER, TARGET IN SIGHT and EQUISITE JEWEL. These are all GROUP Winners by Danehill line stallions out of Mares who carry the Zabeel strain like Miss Damita!!
Inspections most welcome at Sledmere Stud by contacting Royston Murphy on 0428-418926 OR Catriona Murphy on 0409-369965.
