STOP PRESS; 11/6/2024 - Tassort now sits in second place on the Australian First Season Sires List, after Sydney placings by Sacred Fort and Shamadan in the past week. Earlier today Mawjood (trained by Team Hawkes), a one length barrier trial winner at Rosehill.

Lumic is offered with a reserve price of $20,000+GST. She sells in foal to Tassort (due 13 September 2024). Tassort is standing this coming season at $35,000+GST and is fully booked.

Lumic has been a wonderful producer to date – both on the racetrack and in the sales ring.

Dam of 3 foals to race – all winners, including Sydney and Melbourne winner Jupitus (in training with Chris Waller) and Trip the Light (5 wins).

In the yearling sales ring, her foals have sold for $180,000 (Jupitus by Sebring), $160,000 (Trip the Light by Sebring), $110,000 (Lumeric by Brazen Beau) and more recently $47,500 for her 2022 Dirty Work filly which was purchased by leading Tasmanian trainer John Blacker, putting her in the top dozen priced fillies sold at the this year’s Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

Lumic’s 2023 King’s Legacy is another particularly good foal out of her and will be offered by Armidale Stud at one of next year’s Australian yearling sales.

Covering sire Tassort has made a tremendous start at stud. Remembering he commenced stud duties at a fee of $11,000, he is right up there among the leading first crop sires this season with the likes of Too Darn Hot ($44,000 first season fee), Pierata ($44,000) and Alabama Express ($27,500).

Siring 8 winners from his 21 runners to date, Tassort’s 38.1% winners/runners place him ahead of both Pierata (34.8%) and Too Darn Hot (33.3%). His 2yo’s wins/starts percentage of 27.5%, also place him ahead of Too Darn Hot (21.2%) and Pierata (13.9%).

Tassort’s leading performers to date include Manaal (ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes -Gr.1), Ameena (2nd VRC Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes – Gr.3), Ad Astra (2nd SAJC Cinderella Stakes – LR), as well as City winners Onemoretwomany (Perth) and Astapor (Brisbane).

At the 2024 sales, Tassort’s yearling average has more than doubled to $82,000, with a clearance rate of 94% (46 sold from 49 offered). He has had 15 yearlings sell for $100,000 and above, with his top priced colt selling for $380,000 (to Richard and Will Freedman) and his top priced filly selling for $350,000 (to Brae Sokolski/Group 1 Bloodstock).

Lumic’s grand dam is Champion Australian 2yo Filly Midnight Fever (VATC Blue Diamond S). She is also closely related to Group 1 winner Rock Classic (VRC Australian Guineas). Other notable Group 1 performers from her family include Frolic (ATC Golden Slipper S), Knowledge (VATC Blue Diamond S), Startling Lass (STC Golden Slipper S), Shovhog (STC Golden Slipper S), Bam’s on Fire (SAJC Robert Sangster S), Skyerush (Tattersall’s Tiara), etc.

Lumic’s family continues to produce plenty of winners and black type performers each season. Within one generation of her catalogue page there are currently mares at stud with yearlings, weanlings, and coverings by proven and up and coming stallions such as The Autumn Sun, Capitalist, Too Darn Hot, Pierata (2), Harry Angel, Star Turn, Brave Smash, Zousain (2), Exceedance, Brutal, etc.

Lumic is an attractive scopey mare, measured to stand 15.3hh. She has a well above average breeding history, having only ever failing to deliver a foal once over the past eight years, and is due to foal in September this year.
