Description
Ascension, 7YO gelding by Dark Angel
A £100,000 Tattersalls Horses in Training purchase, Ascension is a nine time winner and seven time placegetter. He has collected $430,000 in prize money.
His first win for us came at Caulfield, where he beat G3 winner and this year's Swanhill Cup winner Munhamek, who also won his last two starts at Flemington. Later on that year, Ascension won the Woodford Cup at Warrnambool, before running third to Pounding and Corner Pocket at Mooney Valley, beating a handy contingent of horses such as Munhamek, Playoffs, Explosive Jack and Nerve Not Verve.
In his win at Royal Randwick he beat G1 placegetters Athabascan and Caboche amongst others. In spring last year he won the Gold Nugget at Ballarat, ran third in the Listed Seymour Cup, fourth in the Listed Cranbourne Cup (form lines around horses such as Just Folk, Here To Shock, Foxy Cleopatra, etc.) and third in the Werribee Cup behind Keats and Junipal.
His first up run at The Bool this year saw him beaten less than two lengths behind last start Listed Flemington placegetter Green Fly. Ascension's best performance this preparation was his second to Munhamek in the Swanhill Cup, beating Green Fly and Junipal.
After two disappointing runs suggesting the gelding is in need of a spell, the ownership has decided to sell. We believe Ascension still has upside.
