Sydney Bowler is an undefeated four-year-old gelding by Champion sire, Deep Field out of the Shamus Award mare, Shy Talk. The gelding has been very impressive in his short career to date, rounded out last preparation with a 2.15L victory in Saturday Bm72 grade. The form to come from those three races are of subsequent metropolitan winners, Dazzle Legend, Tellez and Fire Tribe. Disappointingly he was scratched from the Magic Millions Guineas in January as favourite due to a barrier incident.
The son of Deep Field was a $300,000 purchase from the Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2022, hailing from the same family as three time Group 1 winner Jameka. The gelding was due to trial in late June but unfortunately suffered a setback. He is currently into his twelfth week spelling and will require a roughly another 3 weeks depending on vet clearance after being found with a ‘POD” or bone bruising on his left fore metacarpal condyles.
