How good is Siyouni? Any stallion who commences their career at a fee of EUR7,000 (AUD12,000) and then rises to EUR200,000 (AUD345,000) must be extraordinarily gifted. Zakiyya presents Australian and NZ breeders with a rare chance to secure a daughter of this outstanding stallion. Bred and raised on Arrowfield Stud, Zakiyya showed good ability from day one, running third at Randwick (Kensington) to subsequent stakes winner and Group 1 Golden Rose placed Zou Tiger. A further Sydney placing at Warwick Farm in her next preparation, was followed by a Maiden win at Newcastle over 1400m.

Relocated to Brisbane by the Chris Waller stable, Zakiyya was to go on and win a further three City races at Eagle Farm (1400m), Doomben (1350m) and Ipswich (1350m). Her current NSW Benchmark Rating is 67. Her race record stands at; 21 starts, 4 wins, 4 placings and $130,325 in prize money.

Zakiyya’s sire Siyouni has been a major revelation to breeders worldwide. From humble beginnings, he has managed to sire 17% stakes horses/runners; 8.1% stakes winners/runners; 4.1% group winners/runners, stats which put him firmly in the top rung of stallions presently at stud in the world. His Group 1 winners include Champions such as St Mark’s Basilica, Paddington, Laurens and Tahiyra. While in Australia he has been ably represented by $4.1 million earner and Group 1 winner Amelia’s Jewel.

Zakiyya comes from one of the great Aga Khan female lines, her family having produced European Horse of the Year Zarkava, and South African Horse of the Year Igugu, as well as Group 1 winners Zarak (a leading young sire in Europe), Helene Paragon (HK), Zainta (French Oaks), and French Fifteen (Champion 3yo Miler in France).

Zakiyya is measured to stand 16.2 1/2 hands high. She is a mare with plenty of strength, substance, and bone. She is good to handle and has no reported vices. She has been spelling in the NSW Hunter Valley since her last start in early December. Zakiyya was reported to Racing NSW on 13 September 2023, as having bled from one nostril, and was reinstated for racing three months later. She has had no reported bleeds since that time.

Zakiyya presents as a wonderful opportunity for someone to either purchase to race on prior to this season or retire straight to stud now. A multiple City winner, by a Champion Stallion, from a great Aga Khan family, she has a lot of boxes already ticked for a broodmare prospect of some worth.
