Description
This filly is out of the winning and Listed-placed mare PHOENIX CLAWS (Foxwedge) and is a half-sister to two foals by Champion sire Written Tycoon, both winners, including the Ben, Will & JD Hayes-trained gelding Arizona Activist, who was placed in the Listed MRC Anzac Day Stakes.
This is also the family of Gr.1 Victoria Derby winner ALMAFI.
Phoenix Claws currently has a two-year-old colt by exciting first-crop stallion Lucky Vega, sire of Gr.2 Sweet Embrace winner Within The Law, and was covered by Nature Strip’s sire Nicconi in 2024.
This filly’s sire, Tagaloa, has already produced a dual winner in the Nick Olive-trained filly SPICY LU, with several of his first-crop two-year-olds in training with Australia’s leading trainers including Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, Chris Waller, Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman, and Ciaron Maher. His second-crop yearlings have also been in high demand, selling for up to $270,000 this season.
