Description
ADMONISH showed tremendous potential on debut as a 2-year-old, winning at a Brisbane Metro meeting (Ipswich) over 1200m, defeating subsequent Saturday Metro winners Black Minto (Brisbane) and Very Sewreel (Melbourne).
She then backed up that win at her second start, when on debut as a 3-year-old, once again being victorious at a Brisbane Metro meeting (Ipswich) over 1200m. Things were certainly looking extremely promising for ADMONISH. Two starts, two wins!
Soon after her second win, ADMONISH developed soreness in a front fetlock, and was immediately spelled. As she was held in such high regard, as with many of the Chris Waller stable’s better horses, ADMONISH was relocated to the Sydney stable to continue her racing career. After a good first up fourth at Warwick Farm, unfortunately she could not recapture her early form, and she was recently retired from racing.
ADMONISH is a daughter of successful stallion Astern, sire of over 230 winners and 14 Stakes Winners to date including Group winners such as Golden Mile (Gr.1), Affaire a Suivre (Gr.1), Aft Cabin (Gr.2), Seradess (Gr.2) and Parisal (Gr.3). Being by Medaglia d’Oro, currently the USA’s leading active stallion by worldwide Stakes Winners, and out of Blue Hen Essaouira (by Exceed and Excel), there is little reason to believe Astern will not make the grade as a broodmare sire.
ADMONISH is the first foal of four-time winner Reprimand, a daughter of three-times Champion Australian Sire I Am Invincible. After ADMONISH, Reprimand produced a Farnan colt in 2022, which was purchased by Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott at last year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $375,000 (unfortunately he is unable to race); in 2023, a filly by one of our leading first crop sires in Bivouac ; and she is due to Champion First and Second crop sire Russian Revolution later this year.
Reprimand is a full sister to the outstanding juvenile filly Fiesta, a multiple Group winner of over $1.5 million. Fiesta’s first foal, a 2023 colt by Pinatubo, was purchased by Lindsay Park Racing, for $700,000 at this year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale, which is nearly double the stallion’s second highest priced yearling ($380,000). An outstanding first foal, Fiesta has followed this up with a reported “better foal,” a colt by Dundeel in 2024, and was covered last season by the stallion which is currently on everyone’s lips, Wootton Bassett.
Now Now (by Danehill Dancer), ADMONISH’s grand dam, has produced a further six fillies, to help carry her line forward. Three of these fillies are still racing, or about to race, and include Reasonable (2020 by Justify), a $400,000 yearling, a winner this season, in training with Ciaron Maher; Hey Now Hey Now (2021 by Pierro), a $400,000 yearling, placed once in 2 starts to date, in training with Robert Hickmott; Gaelic Gem (2022 by Farnan), retained by her breeder Fairhill Farm to race, in training with Luke Pepper, Scone: Woodenbridge (2023 by Wootton Bassett), retained by her breeder Fairhill Farm to race, to be trained by Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou. With so much high-level activity in the family presently occurring, this is a family which will continue to prosper over time.
ADMONISH is a good-looking mare. As a yearling, she was Astern’s top selling yearling at the 2020 sales. The mare went to the paddock sound on 19 February following her most recent start on 12 February. She is being sold as a breeding only prospect as a post race scope showed a grade two bleed. She retires sound and is expected to let down into a lovely broodmare. She is for genuine sale and sells unreserved. The filly has no vices and is quiet to handle.
