Description
This mare is by Americain (USA), Champion Stayer and winner of the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup. She is a direct descendant of one of Australasia’s greatest race mares - her granddam is none other than Let’s Elope (NZ), the Horse of the Year and multiple Group 1 winner, including victories in the Melbourne Cup, Australian Cup, and Caulfield Cup.
From a deep, black-type family, this mare is out of a daughter of Gr.1 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus (USA), who has proven to be a successful broodmare sire. Her dam, Paris Tryst, has produced multiple winners, most notably winner and Gr.2 placed Yulong Baby (Commands)
Contrasting has a pedigree full of quality, offering outstanding long-term breeding potential, and recent trends show strong upside in unraced mares from elite families. Unraced mares have also recently produced Gr.1 winners such as HITOTSU, DAUMIER, and ARTORIUS.
Adding further value, she has a 2024 weanling by exciting sire Lucky Vega (IRE), a Gr.1-winning son of Lope de Vega, and already sire of Group winners including Gr.2 Sweet Embrace Stakes Winner Within The Law. Lucky Vega’s progeny has hit the ground running, and his stock is only expected to rise in the seasons ahead.
Contrasting's 2023 gelding, also by Lucky Vega (IRE), is currently in training with John Sadler. He came 2nd in a trial at Pakenham on 23rd April, showing good promise and improving as expected by the trainer.
