Description
Sparkles (3f Grunt – Shampz, by Stratum) is being sold as a racing proposition.
After finishing second in a jump out on 29 April at Pakenham, Sparkles displayed freshness to cross and lead, before being overhauled in the Maiden 1200 metres on 22 May at Pakenham. The performance was positive given her early zip, while also being understandable, given her pedigree, that 1200 metres was going to be too short.
Her dam, Shampz, has left three winners of seven races to 1600 metres, and the pedigree suggests she may require further.
Sparkles is from the second crop by exciting young sire Grunt (O’Reilly), a first-class racehorse and dual Group One winner of the Australian Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and Makybe Diva Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m), who has already proved himself when leaving stakes winners from his first crop, including stallion prospect Veight (Grunt), who bolted in winning on debut by six lengths, dealt to them when winning the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m) at just his second start, and subsequently won the Australian Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and George Ryder Stakes (Gr. 1, 1500m).
Grunt is from the impressive winning (2000m – 2100m) NZ mare Ruqqaya (Van Nistelrooy), a half-sister to five-time Group One winner and successful stallion Ocean Park (Thorn Park), who, including Grunt and Group Two winner Zayydani (Savabeel), has left six individual winners of 23 races and over $3m in stakes.
Most recently, Ruqqaya is the dam of exciting filly Madiyya (Super Seth), who recorded a hat-trick of wins on 31 May at Caulfield.
An absolutely top-drawer family and Grunt not only proved himself as one of the best three-year-olds in Australia, but has made an immediate impact as a sire.
Dam, Shampz, is by solid Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) sire Stratum, a Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner, who has sired the winners of over 90 stakes races, including seven individual Group One winners.
Sparkles is nice natured and has no vices. Though please note, she does not go on the treadmill. She stands at approximately 15.3hh.
Sparkles is for sale through no fault of her own; her owner is downsizing and therefore dissolving her racing partnership. Inspections are welcome.
