Description
Cry If I Want To is a quality mare by champion broodmare sire Street Cry, out of the outstanding dual Gr.1-winning mare Zarita (NZ) (Pentire). She comes from a deep international black-type family that includes top-class performers such as Run Like The Wind and Hong Kong Gr.1 winner Joy And Fun.
Her dam, Zarita, was one of the standout mares of her generation, winning both the Gr.1 South Australian Derby and the prestigious Gr.1 Oaks. In addition to five Gr.2 wins, she placed at the highest level, including the Gr.1 Cox Plate and the Gr.1 Australian Cup. As a broodmare, Zarita has been highly successful, with all her progeny being winners, including Cry If I Want To.
Cry If I Want To, won three races and placed at stakes level during her racing career. She has made a strong start to her broodmare career. Her first foal, by Shalaa, is a winner over 2200m. Her second foal, by Exceed and Excel, sold for $400,000 as a yearling and has won three races to date, including one in 2025, and remains in training. She also has a three-year-old filly by Dundeel currently in work and a yearling by Russian Revolution.
She’s currently in foal to Pierata, sire of Gr.2 winner and Golden Slipper performer Coleman. Pierata has proved himself a consistent source of winners, with only Too Darn Hot bettering him in the second season sires table this season by winners. His progeny has also proven popular in the sales ring, with yearlings selling for up to $330,000 in 2025.
