Julio Rex (Aus) Bay 2002 16.2.hh – IGLESIA - House Music by Palace Music
Julio Rex is a bay stallion by IGLESIA out of a Palace Music mare. He won his first two race starts in
exciting fashion before sustaining a hoof injury that ended his racing career. He is a fine upstanding
horse and was a bold performer and carries a regal presence. In his third race start, as favourite at Eagle
Farm, he was severely galloped on sustaining an injury to his off-fore coronary band which affected
hoof growth from then on. Further racing proved unsuccessful so he was retired to stud.
His trainer is quoted in the media as saying “The injury to Julio Rex is the biggest disappointment I
have had in racing”
At stud Julio Rex was the associate sire for Felix The Cat (USA) by Storm Cat (USA) and
consequently got few opportunities. However he is fertile and produces fine individuals, invariably
very correct.
Julio Rex is the only Iglesia sire available in Australia other than the immensely successful
Written Tycoon - a leading Australian sire (2017 fee $88000).
Julio Rex is a flashy individual with a prominent blaze and three white socks and attracts pleasure-horse
owners and coloureds as well as thoroughbreds. He is owned by Glenona Stud P/L and is located at
Valentine Park in SE Qld in the care of Belinda and Michael Little who report that the stallion has a
wonderful temperament and is a gentleman in the serving barn. He was listed in recent editions of
Queensland Stallions.
