Description
This quality, young, well-related mare is offered in-foal to Fastnet Rock’s dual Group One-winning three-year-old MERCHANT NAVY.
An extremely popular sire, Merchant Navy’s yearlings in 2022 have sold to $700,000 and he is off to a very promising start with his first two-year-olds. From his first 12 runners, Merchant Navy sired Drisana (2nd behind Coolangatta in the Group Three Gimcrack Stakes on debut), plus the metro winners Standing Order, Galaxy Affair, and In The Navy, and the metro-placed Cadetship, Merchelle and Callsign Charlie. Dirty Merchant, trained by Annabel Neasham, became his sire’s fifth individual winner when winning impressively at Newcastle earlier this month.
A $500,000 Inglis Easter yearling, Splendid is out of Fraar mare Fiesole who is a half-sister to Group Two winner/Group One placed GREGERS and Group Three winner/Group Two placed GIRL GUIDE.
There is plenty of upside in this immediate family – the two-year-old Snitzel filly out of Gregors (a $440,000 yearling) is in training with Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott and Gregors also has a yearling filly by Lonhro to race for her while Brownie, the first foal out of Gregors is already a winner at Moonee Valley for the Maher/Eustace stable.
Fiscally, the unraced three-year-old Capitalist half-brother to Splendid, was an impressive trial winner at Hawkesbury in February before being turned out for a spell. Splendid’s full-sister Badia (a $600,000 yearling purchase by Godolphin) foaled a filly by Street Boss last spring and was subsequently served by Frosted.
Three of the top four highest-priced broodmares at this year’s Inglis Broodmare Sale were daughters of Snitzel, including the $350,000 sale-topper. In 2021-22, two and three-year-old Stakes winners out of daughters of Snitzel include LAVISH GIRL (Xtravagant), MARINE ONE (Capitalist), DAISIES (Sebring), THE AMAZONIAN (Akeed Mofeed), PINSTRIPED (Street Boss), SNOWDOME (Rommel), CANNONBALL (Capitalist), PIXIE CHIX (Rommel), and MILLANE (Zoustar).
