Description
Hela is a 4 year old mare by Night Of Thunder out of the Redoute's Choice mare, Smooth Return.
This is a rare opportunity to secure a southern hemisphere bred, stakes-winning mare by record breaking sire Night of Thunder out of a Redoute's Choice mare, Smooth Return.
Winner of her first seven starts in succession by a combined margin of 22 lengths from 1100m - 2100m including the Hobart Thousand Guineas and the Listed Strutt Stakes in track record time before tasting her first defeat as a $4 chance in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks. Her win in the Listed Strutt Stakes was in blistering style – she led all the way to defeat Coolmore’s Chequerboard by 3 ½ lengths and in 3rd place was the Eustace/Maher trained, Mystic Falcon.
Hela is a half-sister to the Group 3 and multiple stakes-winning mare Toorak Affair (by Toorak Toff) who retired to stud and was sold last year for $155,000 and has since been covered by Wootton Bassett (2022 service fee $71,500).
Hela has a reputation as Tasmania’s best mare and her trainer, Scott Brunton is Tasmania's leading thoroughbred trainer and twelve-time premiership winner. Last month, before Hela’s last run, he declared Hela as "…probably the best I've trained".
