Description
Music Queen is a 3-year-old filly by Snitzel who was purchased for $360,000 from the 2022 Magic Millions Sale. Her pedigree matched with her near perfect conformation made her a ‘must buy’ for the Waterhouse/Bott team. Music Queen is out of the winning Danehill Dancer mare Muzyka, who is the dam of 4 named foals and 2 winners. Her second dam, Music In My Heart, is a full sister to Group 3 Royal Ascot winner, Melbourne Cup place getter and sire, Mahler. Prominent sire and 2,000 Guineas winner, Footstepsinthestand, dual Group 1 winner Power, and Champion Older Female Miler in France in 2018 and 2019 are from the same family.
She showed plenty of ability as a 2-year-old. She won her first trial over 800m at Warwick Farm and came 3rd in her second trial a fortnight later.

Music Queen was dynamic scoped on 11th May which revealed she has moderate to severe dynamic airway obstruction, resulting in approximately 50% reduction in the size of the laryngeal airway during exercise, which is likely to result in exercise intolerance (please see vet report attached). She underwent the recommended throat surgery on 17th May 2023 (please see vet report attached). Music Queen returned to full training on 18th October. A second dynamic scope on 24th October was carried out after the filly had reportedly been making an abnormal respiratory noise and shown signs of respiratory distress during trot and canter work. This dynamic scope revealed Music Queen has severe dynamic airway obstruction, resulting in approximately 90% reduction in the size of the laryngeal airway during exercise. Given the severity of the dynamic airway obstruction and the filly’s previous left arytenoidectomy surgery, the prognosis for returning to racing is guarded. As a result, she is being offered as a broodmare.
