Zia won on debut at Canterbury over 1200m as a 2YO beating Makena and subsequent Stakes winner Zoukerette.

At just her second start she won the Listed Bill Carter Stakes over 1200m Doomben defeating subsequent Stakes winner Abounding, with Stakes winners or Stakes performers like Queen of Dragons, Russian Alliance, Avone and Party For Two all in arrears.

Zia was a $360,000 yearling bought by astute judges Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in conjunction with Bruce Slade of Kestrel Thoroughbreds. She is just the second Stakes winning juvenile by Zoustar to be offered through public auction this year with the other being Platinum Jubilee, who made $3,500,000.

She is a daughter of the extraordinary sire Zoustar, who is the sire of 55 Stakes winners. He is Australia’s leading sire by winners and individual Stakes winners in 2023/24.

Zia’s dam Soviet Secret was a hugely talented 2YO. She ran 4 times as a 2YO and was Stakes placed at her first 3 starts, including a 0.1 length 2nd in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes on debut and a 0.3 length 2nd in the Listed Inglis Classic. At her final juvenile start, in the G3 Percy Sykes Stakes, she finished 4th, beaten 1.1 lengths by Missrock, Prompt Response and Spright, defeating Stakes winners Thyme For Roses and Twist Tops.
